G-advisory holds working breakfast on the ERP Law in Chile

Last Tuesday, May 9, G-advisory in collaboration with the law firm Echevarría-Ilharreborde organized a working breakfast at the exclusive Club50 in Santiago de Chile entitled: Challenges of the Extended Producer Responsibility (ERP) Law in Chile: lessons from Spanish and European Experience. The aim of the event was to address, from a practical standpoint, the implications in Chile of the application of Law 20.920, which establishes the “framework for waste management, extended producer liability and promotion of recycling.”

The event was fully attended with more than 50 representatives from the industrial sectors most affected by the law. The session was presented by Juan Cruzate, manager of G-advisory Chile and included three presentations. Lawyer José Domingo Ilharreborde gave the first presentation on new developments introduced by Law 20.920 in the regulation of waste management in Chile. Mr. Rodrigo Álvarez, the former Chilean energy minister and current chairman of the Chilean Food and Beverage Association then explained how the Ministry of Energy and the different industry associations affected had worked on the drafting of the law, and highlighted aspects that must be monitored to ensure the successful application of the law. Lastly, Mr. Juan Pablo Pérez, Principal of G-advisory, spoke about practical experience in Europe and Spain of creating integrated waste management systems in order to comply with extended producer responsibility. The presentations were followed by a lively Q&A session.
