Metallic Mining Hall Congress Second Edition

The second edition of Metallic Mining Hall, on course to become the largest metallic mining congress held in Europe every two years, took place in Seville on October 17, 18 and 19. Metallic mining has seen a resurgence in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula and is currently, and will be in the future, a major source of wealth and job creation for southern Spain (the Andalucía Regional Government estimates mining will generate 40,00 direct and indirect jobs). The central themes of the congress were Sustainability and the Circular Economy, both highly topical issues, with a range of top national and international experts discussing subjects relating to innovation, modernization and the circular economy in mining projects.

On Wednesday 18, G-advisory principal Juan Pablo Pérez took part in the technical session entitled Modernization of Mining, giving a talk on management of the environmental and social aspects of the financing of mining projects and the criteria used by multilateral organizations. He explained the environmental and social criteria to be considered a priori by all mining projects, on the basis of the international standards of organizations such as the World Bank or the International Finance Corporation, when attempting to obtain international financing, which adds a further level of complexity to the financial management of these types of projects.
