New call for Climate Projects
On March 15, 2017, the FES-CO2 launched the sixth call for Climate Projects. This call is targeted at projects that reduce emissions from the diffuse sectors and that enter into operation by March 31, 2018. Eligible projects must be located in Spain and must not be subject to the emission trading scheme. It should be noted that there is no minimum volume of reduction required, although the potential reduction will be assessed. Projects may be proposed by both public and private entities.
In this new call, the purchase price will be €9.7/ton of CO2 equivalent, nearly double the average price of the European Union Allowances (EUAs) in 2016 (€5.35/ton of CO2).
Since the first call, launched in 2012, over 250 Climate Projects and Programs have been approved, with over €60 million distributed among them. To date, Climate Projects have reduced more than 7.4 million tons of CO2 and constitute an important tool for reducing the emissions of the diffuse sectors.
Last year’s call saw the selection of 6 agricultural and livestock projects, 2 fluorinated gas projects, 6 industrial and mining projects, 27 residential, commercial and institutional projects, 10 waste projects and 12 transportation projects. Most of these projects were submitted by private entities, although some of the projects selected were submitted by public entities such as the Soria, Aspe and Suria Municipal Councils.
The deadline for the call is May 15, 2017.
